A BIG THANK YOU!
What can we say but a big thank you to the staff and volunteers providing unique shopping and food delivery in Cornwall these difficult times. Yes, it can be confusing, and it’s certainly a whole new experience, especially for those missing the interaction shopping provides BUT by ‘staying at home’ we’re all doing a great job – let’s give ourselves a pat on the back!
At Cornwall Link, we’re bringing together the vital offers from the community who provide food deliveries. These are smaller local shops: health food shops, plastic free, farm shops - the list goes on.
We’re also including the great sources of ‘meals on wheels’ from care in the community services to local pubs and Age UK Cornwall and IOS’s fabulous Day Centres: Falmouth and St Austell.with Newquay, offering shopping delivery.
We’re keeping you as up-to-date as we can and amazed at what’s being achieved but, occasionally, shops are at capacity or need to stock-up. It’s our job, in the community, to keep that thank you going: smile and be patient, have more than one source of food available and book deliveries, and order pick-ups in advance. If you need some help with this, please give us a call or send an email.
Our wonderful Helpline are giving all the support and information they possibly can, backed-up by staff who are jumping-in to help them. This Easter, one of our staff found a Sunday Roast delivery for a lady who was not looking forward to an Easter Sunday without her family. Thanks to Miss Molly’s Tea Room, our client had a full Sunday Roast on Easter Sunday!
Then there are the fantastic volunteer groups collecting and delivering everything from your food shop to your prescription. Volunteer Cornwall have worked tirelessly to support and provide the coordination needed – you can link to the groups or have a volunteer delivering to your door.
Family, friends, neighbours and church communities are adding to those giving and caring for those most vulnerable and in need. Add to this the Food Banks and the staff providing meals for the schoolchildren now at home, and we have a picture I think we’d all love to hang on our wall: a dedicated community of love and commitment.
A big thank you to all those chefs and companies providing hot meals and food for our heroic NHS key workers and frontline staff.
But now, we’d love to hear from you. Please share your stories with us, whether you’re the one providing the food or someone receiving it: what you’re offering or the care you’ve been given. Perhaps you’ve had to try something completely different to eat – another of our staff, shopping from a local shop, enjoyed the rainbow colours of chard for the first time!
Be safe: if you are using someone other than trusted family, friends and neighbours, ensure the person who offers to do the shop or delivery is genuine and linked to an authentic source. Also have that difficult chat and check they are following the government guidelines – it could save your life or someone else’s.
