Role: Chair of Trustees

Organisation: Creative Kernow

Location: Cornwall (Hybrid meetings)

Salary: Unremunerated

Creative Kernow is the cultural and creative sector development organisation for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We are a charity with a mission to enrich and energise creative communities of place and practice through the production, distribution, and promotion of artistic work, networks, and knowledge.

Our support includes:

  • Providing affordable workspace
  • Developing skills and knowledge
  • Helping clients to demonstrate their business viability
  • Producing and distributing creative work
  • Building networks and confidence
  • Co-creating transformative cultural projects with communities in Cornwall
  • Making national and international connections
  • Reaching new audiences, markets, and opportunities

With the retirement of our long-standing Chair John Pulford MBE, Creative Kernow is seeking an individual of significant standing to lead our well-established board. We are commencing our search for a new Chair at a time of change and opportunity; European funding has been replaced by Cornwall Council’s more modest Good Growth programme. We also have a new phase of development for Krowji following the 2021 fire and must navigate our way through the economic recession and cost of living crisis. We know this role, supporting our leadership team will be challenging but also varied, inspiring and ultimately rewarding.

You must have Board level experience ideally as a Chair but certainly in significant Executive or Non-Executive Director roles. You will have a passion for the arts and the creative industries and the ability to act as an effective advocate and ambassador for Creative Kernow, together with strong networks and excellent communication/interpersonal skills to engage a wide range of stakeholders and support our income generation strategies. Applications are invited from candidates with a high profile creative, cultural, charity or public sector background, and/ or experience of leading a cultural organisation or commercial creative business.

If you have a passion for arts, cultural and creative industries and would like to make a positive contribution to the sector across Cornwall, we would be delighted to hear from you.
