Volunteer Chair and Trustees - First Light
Over two million people in the UK experience domestic abuse every year. First Light is an award-winning charity, at the forefront of supporting victims and campaigning to end domestic abuse and sexual violence once and for all. We are seeking people to join us in creating safe communities, free from violence and abuse.
Our growing charity supports individuals of any age, gender or sexuality who have been affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence. We operate in Devon, Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and Wiltshire and are independent from statutory agencies, including the Police. Every year we support thousands of people towards a safer life, free from violence and abuse. Alongside our frontline services, we also provide bespoke domestic abuse and sexual violence training and education.
Our Mission is to move to the point where people can live their lives in safety free from domestic abuse and sexual violence and we are seeking new Board members who will help us make this a reality.
This is an incredibly exciting time for a new Chair and Trustees to join First Light’s passionate Board; you will play a key role in changing the domestic abuse and sexual violence landscape by helping us secure new investment to enable the development of new services that capture societies willingness to recognise and talk about abuse, through awareness raising and the provision of training and education.
We have identified the following priority areas to complement our existing strengths:
- Chair: previous Board / Chair experience with knowledge and senior level experience in the broad environment of domestic abuse, sexual violence or commissioned services
- Fundraising (ideally trusts and foundations)
- Commercial development (specifically traded, income generating services)
- Digital / technology (strategy and / or delivery)
We are committed to proactively seeking greater diversity and lived experience on our Board, to reflect the people and communities that we serve. Whilst we currently operate across the South West of England, we are increasing our geographical reach and would welcome applications from candidates based in any location.
