Primary care services provide the first point of contact in the healthcare system, acting as the ‘front door’ of the NHS. Primary care includes general practice, community pharmacy, dental, and optometry (eye health) services.
Primary Care Cancer Champions are nurses, working in primary care, who have completed the Macmillan Cancer Course for primary care.
This training helps to give them the knowledge and confidence to help support patients who have been diagnosed and living with and beyond their cancer.
Around 50% of GP surgeries across Cornwall now have a Primary Care Cancer Champion. If you are struggling to find help or support around cancer for you or a loved one, it may help to ask your surgery if they have a Cancer Champion that you can speak to and may be able to signpost you to further services.
