Dementia Action week and cancer
16th - 22nd May 2022 is Dementia Action week.
Did you know, there are resources to support people living with dementia, who also have cancer?
The Alzheimer's Society say: 'Research shows that people with dementia are more likely to be diagnosed with cancer at a later stage, receive less treatment, experience more treatment complications, and have poorer survival, compared to people with cancer without dementia'.
This is why it is so important for families, friends and community groups who see the person regularly, to be aware of how to lower the risks for cancer, what to look for in early signs and the importance of early diagnosis. Find out more from Macmillan here
Macmillan also offer two books: Cancer and Dementia: A Guide for Carers
and A Guide for People with Cancer and Dementia
If you are caring for someone with dementia and cancer, Dementia UK have A Guide for Carers
