Hand in Hand Day Centre is set on a smallholding in Halamanning near Goldsithney Penzance. TR20 9HT It has been set up by husband and wife team, Brian & Sheila Baker. They have worked with Shared Lives South West for the past 15 years and in that role they provided much respite care for those with dementia and realised how few day centres specialized in that type of care provision, so they opened one. A priority was that it should have a very homely feel and therefore be a relaxing environment.
Hand in Hand provides person centered care as no two people are alike and dementia sufferers have specific needs. They have many activities including arts and crafts, games, some silly ball games, and singing and music is very popular and therapeutic.
There are outdoor spaces to enjoy too when the weather permits, including raised garden beds, woodland walks and water features.
A two course meal is provided every day, with particular diets being catered for, all prepared on site. Staffing levels are high and all staff are trained to deal with the complexities of those with dementia or Alzheimer's.
