Diabetes UK Community Groups are support groups, run by a Community Group Lead Volunteer. They are less formal than our Local Groups, but provide a network of support in the local community for people living with diabetes and their families.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting people with diabetes and can lead a new group in the Lostwithiel community in Cornwall. We will be able to provide ongoing support as your community grows, including resources around campaigning and fundraising.

Why we want you

Diabetes UK Community Groups are support groups; they are run by a Community Group Lead Volunteer. They are less formal than our Local Groups, but they still provide support in the local community for people living with diabetes and their families.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting people with diabetes and can drive the creation of a new community. We will be able to provide ongoing support as your community grows, including resources around campaigning and fundraising, where needed.

What you will be doing

  • Work with your local Diabetes UK team to agree the aims of your community group and who it will target
  • Promote the community group to potential new members in your area
  • Organise community activities depending on the needs of your community
  • Be the main point of contact with local Diabetes UK staff for the community
  • Manage your community in line with Diabetes UK guidelines
  • Produce a short summary of the group's activities each year

The skills you need

  • Good organisational skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Leadership skills and experience of running meetings
  • Ability to motivate others and involve them in the work of the group
  • Ability to delegate tasks to others
  • A willingness to work in line with the Diabetes UK Community Group agreement and wider policies to keep everyone safe and healthy
