Do you want to make a huge difference to a person with a learning disability? Could you spare a little time just 6 times a year? Would you be up for picking up a pair of knitting needles? (Don't worry, it is easy to learn!) We are looking to recruit a volunteer to develop a friendly relationship with a 70 year-old lady that we support in Lostwithiel in Cornwall. This role would involve a visit once every two months, for a total of six visits a year.
This delightful lady is strong-willed, and unafraid to speak her mind. She would love nothing more than a friendly chat over a cup of tea and a knit. A reliable, confident, and friendly volunteer would be just the thing for this role. She really is a joy!
Volunteering times are fairly flexible, with weekdays and weekends both being suitable. Visits would likely start at around 1-1.5 hours, but may get longer as you get to know each other.
As a Mencap volunteer visitor you will be:
- Friendly and approachable
- Accepting of others who might be different to yourself
- Reliable and patient
- Passionate about supporting people with a with a learning disability.
