Travel limit? Volunteers should live within 25 miles of the Unit.

Time

Mostly outside office hours
Estimate of time needed:0-5 hours per month
Cadet training occurs on Mondays 6:30-9pm and Thursdays 6:30-9pm.
Trustees are not required to attend regularly but are encouraged to visit.

The Sea Cadet Corps exists to provide young people with life skills in a safe but challenging and fun nautical environment, using the ethos and values of the Royal Navy to develop characteristics.

What will you be doing?

About the Volunteer Trustee role:

The tasks of a trustee include but are not limited to the following:

·       To be a Charity Trustee

·       Support the UMT chair to manage a properly maintained, serviced, safe, secure, effective, and successful Sea Cadet Unit.

·       Support the UMT in ensuring all unit activities and matters comply with appropriate regulations and Marine Society and Sea Cadet (MSSC) policies.

·       Support the Unit’s fundraising efforts.

·       Ensuring that all young people and instructors at the Unit are engaged in fun and safe activities.

·       Attend a regular UMT meeting – usually one hour, monthly or bi-monthly, on a weekday evening.

About you:

Previous trustee/governance experience would be a benefit, but having the right attitude and a passion for improving the lives of young people are the most important things! If you think the person specification below sounds like you, then please get in touch:

What difference will you make?

The Sea Cadet Corps is the UK’s leading maritime charity and provides a head start in life for young people through nautical adventure and fun. Our volunteers work, both directly with young people and behind the scenes, to help make a positive difference to teenagers who are often struggling in today’s world and their communities.

Falmouth and Penryn Sea Cadets, based on Commercial Road, Penryn, is currently looking for enthusiastic and dedicated trustees to join its Unit Management Team (UMT).  Falmouth and Penryn Sea Cadets is a long-established Sea Cadet Unit that has provided life-changing opportunities for many young people. We Currently have over 40 Cadets who come from Falmouth, Penryn and the surrounding area.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can provide support with the governance of the Unit.   Trustees meet formally about every six weeks.  There are free training courses available for you to develop new skills, boost your CV and support you in this role. These tasks can also be divided between volunteers, so why not come along with a friend and share the experience?
