Social Action Mapping for Cornish Churches
SAM – Social Action Mapping for Cornish Churches is an initiative by Churches Together in Cornwall to make church-led social action programmes better known to the wider community.
Cornish churches organise a wide variety of social action projects across the county, some well-known, others less so. The National Churches Trust reports that churches across the UK provided £12.4 billion worth of essential social and economic support to local communities during the 12 months ending May 2020.
To get a better picture of what’s happening in Cornwall, Churches Together in Cornwall is undertaking a county-wide mapping project to identify existing services.
In the first phase of the project, we are working with Churches Together groups, individual churches and Cornwall Link to identify and record local projects across the county, aiming to reach doctors’ surgeries, social prescribing agencies, council services and individuals who could benefit.
In phase two, we will seek to identify gaps in provision and explore ways they might be filled, and seek means to provide long-term sustainability and continuous updating.
If you would like to be involved, contact us at ctcmissioner@gmail.com – we’d love to hear from you!
