The Wave Project offers 6-week surfing therapy courses for children and young people aged 8-18 experiencing social or emotional challenges. This could include those experiencing anxiety, low mood or loneliness due to bereavement, bullying or isolation.
We currently have BBC Children In Need funding as part of our social prescribing project 'Prescription Surf'. Fully funded places are available for Children aged 8-13 referred via their GP or link worker.
The project offers:
- Trained mentors and coaches to support the children at all times
- A personal service - contact with family guaranteed within 4 weeks
- Aftercare service for referrers and participants (including a surf club)
- Children gain confidence, build social trust and develop new friendships
To refer: Practices/Primary Care Networks are required to sign our service level agreement before GPs and link workers have access to the referral pathway. The SLA can be found here. Please return to samhp@waveproject.co.uk
