Growing Links has two sites - a community garden and a community centre. The programmes are the Community Garden, Street Food Project, Veg Bags and courses and workshops. Many of those taking part are vulnerable and in recovery from substance abuse, domestic abuse, homelessness and a range of mental health issues. The Community Garden is a field 1.4 acres of market garden. People take part in horticultural activities – growing flowers, fruits and vegetables with natural chemical free principles. The Garden hosts courses and workshops. An average of 40 people use the garden weekly. We also have 2.8 acres of ‘wilded’ field for wellbeing activities mediation, stretching and yoga. The Street Food Project is a hot meal service operating 7 days per week, 365 days a year. This volunteer-led service was created to support Penzance’s homeless and/or vulnerably housed, as well as families and individuals suffering from poverty. The volunteers and supporters cook hearty and nutritious food nightly and use the meal service to engage with members of our community. Veg bags: this is a paid for service providing herbs, fruits and vegetables grown in the Community Garden along with local seasonal produce. We offer volunteering opportunities to help people getting back into work through this project.
