About St John Ambulance

St John Ambulance is an incredible oganisation that’s first aid work has been imperative to this country and the other 40 countries worldwide, for over 140 years. We strive for Humanity, Excellence, Accountability, Responsiveness and Teamwork in every program, not exclusive to but including, youth work, adult volunteering, and vitally, support the NHS.

Now we’re looking for people to join the St John Ambulance Youth Teams! We’re currently looking for adult volunteers (18+) to help support our young people within our Cadet units across the Country – including our youth units across Devon. Our Cornwall Youth units are located across East and West Cornwall, in Liskeard, Saltash, Torpoint, St Austell, Truro and St Ives.

In becoming a Youth Leader, you’ll have the opportunity to undertake valuable training courses, build leadership skills, support your local community, and help young people to grow and learn.

About the Cadet Programme:

St John Ambulance Cadets are young people aged 10-17 within St John Ambulance. The Cadet programme has life saving skills at the heart of it, with lots of other opportunities to go alongside. The programme covers a wide range of activities and opportunities for young people. As a member of a Cadet unit, a young person will have the chance to gain awards, learn first aid, and take part in volunteering activities operationally – whether this is through Events, Logistics, Communications, and more!

The Cadet Programme dates back over a hundred years, encompassing some of the most enriching and varied topics young people can learn about. Cadets can get involved in...

  • Learning First Aid and volunteering at local and national events
  • Engaging in social action and helping their local community
  • Learning about health and wellbeing
  • Developing confidence and communication skills through Cadet leadership training
  • Enjoying a wide range of outdoor and adventurous activities

Cadets are organised into local units in which they can develop their skills and build relationships as a team. However, cadets also have opportunities to take part in activities on a wider level, in regional, national, or even international activities in St John.

If you are interested in becoming a Youth Team Member or would like some more information on the role, email simon.ennor@sja.org.uk, or georgina.hughes@sja.org.uk if you are located outside of Devon. Or, visit our website for more information on our youth roles and other volunteering opportunities: Badgers & Cadets Youth Team Volunteers | St John Ambulance (sja.org.uk)
