About
Cornwall Heritage Trust preserves and strengthen Cornwall’s rich and distinct heritage.
Cornwall Heritage Trust was founded in 1985 to “preserve and strengthen” (“gwytha ha crefhe”) Cornwall’s rich and distinct heritage.
We own and conserve 12 of the most iconic heritage sites in Cornwall, working closely with local communities, Natural England, Historic England and English Heritage. These cover a broad spectrum of history; from Neolithic remains such as Tregiffian Burial Chamber, Castle an Dinas, a commanding iron age hill fort, to the Treffry Viaduct a magnificent example of Cornwall’s more recent industrial heritage. To help achieve our objectives we:
- Acquire land of particular beauty, historic, cultural or religious significance and managing its conservation for future generations
- Preserve and restore buildings, artefacts or other items of particular artistic, aesthetic, historic, cultural, religious or other significance
- Educate the general public and the people of Cornwall through an engaging events programme
- Inspire Cornwall’s young people about Cornwall’s heritage and providing Heritage Grants to Schools to encourage the realisation of its importance to future generations
- Promote with sensitivity, the heritage of Cornwall for the people of Cornwall’s economic well being
We also recognise the valuable contribution our sites make to the natural habitats of Cornwall. By providing opportunities for local communities which encompass skills in heritage land management and the environment, we aim to care for our native habitats and ecosystems.
