The Restormel Car Service (RCS) is an independent branch of the Royal Voluntary Service. For over thirty years we have provided community transport for those living in the former Borough of Restormel (Newquay to St. Austell, Fowey to Probus) who are unable to access conventional transport due to ill-health, age or mobility issues in order to attend medical appointments or well-being events.
All of our drivers are volunteers, using their own car to help out. A small charge is made to the client which offsets vehicle running costs. Drivers are prepared to wait at the place of appointment for upto 2 hours in order to return the client home. There is no vehicle insurance loading for charity work.
RCS also provides a Befriending scheme, whereby our specialist volunteers visit those older people in the region who are experiencing loneliness or suffer from isolation. It is surprising what a difference a chat and a cup of tea can make.
We need drivers and befrienders. Can you spare a few hours or days per week to help fellow residents? It is a rewarding experience.
