About
To save surplus food from entering landfill, by getting it to people who will use it, and composting what cant be saved.
Our vision is to reduce food poverty, loneliness and food waste in our community*. With our daily waste food collections, weekly community dining and social clubs, we feed the hungry and give company to the lonely in our community; providing delicious meals and great conversation, and using food which would otherwise go to waste.
Our mission is
- To save surplus food from entering landfill, by getting it to people who will use it, and composting what can’t be saved. Promoting sustainability and changing attitudes to food and society's impact on the environment.
- To reduce hunger, improve nutrition and build resilient communities by bringing people together to share healthy, delicious meals leading to improved food knowledge and changes in behaviour. To strengthen and build resilient communities.
- To support mental health, wellbeing and reduce loneliness by creating welcoming spaces from all ages and backgrounds to have conversations together.
- To be responsive to our community’s needs as they arise, and for us to all work together to achieve these things. As needed we aim to respond to what is needed locally, covid, energy crisis, food and fuel bills rising and do what we can to alleviate the pressure faced by people within the community during these issues.
How we do this:
Every day we collect and recycle food waste and other items from local supermarkets, bakeries, individuals, restaurants, farms and businesses that would otherwise be thrown away. Feeding bellies not bins. These are all offered out to the community for collection 6 days per week. Alongside food sharing we organise regular community meals, clothes share, seed share and have a weekly skill-sharing social club. We have a large and active volunteer base who regularly discuss, organise, support and fundraise for the project.
*The community being anyone that lives, volunteers, works, goes to school, grew up in, has family or friends in St Ives and surrounding areas.
