Truro Street Pastors is a multi-church help and assistance service offered to those using the nighttime economy, pubs and clubs in Truro, and was inaugerated at the request of the local police in 2010. We are part of the nationwide Street Pastor movement of over 350 groups, and one of our teams of uniformed trained volunteers patrol Truro City Centre between 10 pm every Saturday night and approximately 4 am on a Sunday morning.
We offer care and support for the vulnerable and unwell, offer a listening ear, and a wide array of assistance as needed. We also signpost folk to other help, call ambulances, provide first aid as required (training provided), and help keep the streets safe and good humoured.
If you would like a challenging and exciting opportunity - maybe to offer your prior professional training in a voluntary capacity - you would be welcome to come out for a taster shift before making any decision to apply. This is certainly a dynamic service in a challenging environment, but you would be well trained, well supported, and always working as part of an experienced team of three at minimum and normally four or five.
You will need to be 18 years of age or over, but age is no barrier. You only need to be non-judgemental, open minded and able to manage the hours. Each person does one weekend in four, with swops arranged at your convenience for sickness, holidays and other absences.
I'd be delighted to hear from you, and meet up for an exploratory chat over a coffee.
Jonathan Creber. (Co-ordinator) MA Mission.
