AFC Troon Walking Football

We would like to welcome everyone to Troon AFC Walking Football.

We are a Walking Football club based in Troon, Cornwall. Our ethos is Fun, Friendship, Fitness, Fair Play and Footie.....oh and banana cake! Find out more below and click here for dates.

What is Walking Football?

Here is a quick breakdown for people new to Walking Football.

It is a variant of association football but is a slower and calmer version of the game. It is aimed at helping and encouraging people aged 50+ to stay mobile and active. Therefore, we also welcome players who have lesser mobility or who are unfamiliar with Football.

The sport can be played both indoors and outdoors and has been played across the country for about 12 years.

Though based on association football, the key differences are in the rules. No running, offside, heading, hard kicking of the ball or contact. This helps to prevent injuries whilst also helping those who may be less mobile. The manner in which the sport is played promotes cardiovascular fitness whilst also producing the least stress on the body. It also helps participants maintain an active lifestyle, and promotes inclusion and involvement by reducing social isolation and improving mental, physical and emotional health.

Getting involved

It is easy to get involved and all you need to do is wear loose clothes and bring a pair of trainers. We also suggest bringing a bottle of water, hat, gloves and a raincoat all in a waterproof bag. All other equipment is provided.

Sessions are 2 hours in length but you can come for 1 or both. There will be a warm-up, some gentle exercises to build different game skills and then short matches of 10 mins or less. It would be absolutely great to see you there. if you need any more info feel free to give us a call.

When you are ready to come along, try to arrive about 15 mins early so we can get you registered. The first person you meet will be Sarah our Welfare Officer who will look after you and answer any questions you might have. We will get the paperwork sorted out (just a quick emergency contact form, so come prepared with your phone numbers and glasses handy) and you are all set. You will also be introduced to at least one member of our 'crew' who will get you gently started.

Your first session is free.
