Cornwall's First Baby Basics Centre. Based in Liskeard, supported by "The Tribute Churches". Supporting struggling families with the essentials (& treats!).

Part of a UK wide network of centres, supporting parents with young children with clothing and equipment. We welcome donations of items both new and second hand.

We work with local health professionals to ensure families receive their essentials generally about 4 weeks before a baby is due.

Circumstances change daily for each and every person so Remember:

It is never too late to ask for help.

If you are struggling financially, emotionally, or practically with the upcoming birth of a new baby, please ask your health professional (midwife, health visitor, GP, etc) for a referral to Baby Basics.

We are a new centre (launched on 7 June 2021) based in South East Cornwall. Initially we will be giving 0-3 months bundles of essentials to expectant mums who need some additional support.

We will be working with local health professionals so that all our referrals come from them, and bundles are delivered by them too. This enables us to remain a confidential service, and ensure our items reach those that need them.

Bundles are made up of a mix of new and pre-loved items. Our pre-loved items are carefully checked, washed, and ironed by our volunteers. This ensure that all our bundles are high quality, safe, and a real gift of love!

Our volunteers are a mix of folk from our 6 local parishes churches, and some mums from local schools. Some major on the laundry, others are regular donors of goods, others are excellent at chasing businesses and donations, and others are sorters and packers!

We use cash to pay our sub to Baby Basics UK for their support and access to the database we use, to buy items that haven’t come in via donations, and soon we’ll need to start paying rent on premises!

Baby Basics was founded ln 2009 with the aim of providing some of the basics needed for life for vulnerable families with a newborn. Baby Basics work with midwives, health visitors and other local organisations to provide starter packes for those in need. We can help vulnerable groups such as teenage mums, families on low income, and women fleeing domestic abuse and trafficking. Our Moses baskets provide a safer place to sleep and are packed full of toiletries such as nappies, wipes and maternity pads, as well as blankets, towels and baby clothes. For some these are the only items they have for the!r child.
