Device Lending Scheme at Cornwall Council

The lending scheme is available for organisations based in Cornwall to borrow devices and connectivity so that they can discover new ways of working and pilot an approach to embedding digital with the customers they work with.

The devices and connectivity are for use with anyone either digitally excluded or lacking basic digital skills to help them get online and begin to build their confidence so enabling them to be better informed, have more independence and experience less isolation.

Borrowing the devices and connectivity can be an excellent way of supporting vulnerable customers or trying new innovative ways of working digitally.

We want everyone to have the ability to use the internet with confidence and we understand that people will have different motivations for getting started. We welcome applications from organisations supporting people to combat loneliness, improve health and wellbeing, find work, or improve life chances.

We have

Laptop or tablet devices to choose from and the option to also have a MiFi unit and unlimited data (up to 1 year). There is no cost to the organisation.

The devices and connectivity

Are loaned on a rolling monthly basis to the organisation. The loan is rolled over each month in return for an update on how the devices are being used. We reserve the right to ask for the return of the devices or connectivity if no monthly reports are received

Each organisation will

Need to nominate a Digital Champion – to act as main point of contact submitting a short monthly report and delivering basic digital skills training to their service users.

  • A Digital Champion is someone who can help break down barriers that people face to being online, improve understanding and awareness of the internet and inspire them to make digital part of their everyday lives.
  • A Digital Champions does not need to be a technical expert, just someone who can help with the basics e.g. setting up a device, how to use a device safely etc.

We will

Provide the kit and connectivity at no cost the organisation

Provide the Digital Champion/s with training and on-going support to enable them to support their service users with basic digital skills.
