Role description

The Cornwall Heritage Trust (CHT) Story Café’s are a programme of evening talks delivered by experts and practitioners on a variety of fascinating heritage topics from archaeological digs to maritime history. These are held in venues across Cornwall and also online via Zoom.

The aim of the role is to offer attendees an interesting and memorable evening that promotes Cornish heritage.

We are looking for volunteers who would be able to undertake tasks to assist the CHT Events Officer to successfully deliver these events and help expand our programme in the future. More details about the Story Cafes can be found here: www.cornwallheritagetrust.org/story-cafes

Role summary
Tasks may include preparation prior to the event and setting up and running activities on the evening. Volunteers will be allocated tasks by taking into consideration existing skills, experience, availability and preferences. No specific experience is required to volunteer. Training can be provided for those who wish to develop their skills to take on specific duties, such as helping to deliver online Zoom events. The Trust will cover out of pocket expenses (e.g. travel costs) in accordance with the expenses policy.

Tasks that volunteers could help with may include:

  • Providing a warm, friendly welcome to event attendee as the public face of Cornwall Heritage Trust
  • Checking tickets and recording attendance
  • Directing attendees to the seating and facilities within the venue
  • Contributing to the health and safety of event staff and attendees
  • Baking cakes and preparing refreshments for events
  • Serving refreshments
  • Erecting signage, moving tables and chairs and packing away
  • Assisting with car-parking as required
  • Hosting the CHT merchandise and publicity stall and cash/card handling
  • Answering general questions about the Cornwall Heritage Trust
  • Providing Audio Visual and technical support (training available)
  • Becoming familiar with and following the Cornwall Heritage Trust’s ‘Values & Behaviours'

This role will suit you if you are:

  • People-focused and enjoy working with the public and as part of a team
  • Interest in learning more about Heritage and encouraging others to learn
  • Looking for an ongoing role
  • Keen to contribute your skills and/or learn new ones
  • Practical, flexible and willing to get stuck in!
  • Organised and keen to do something behind-the-scenes
  • Enjoy baking and can make a good cuppa!
  • Reliable and responsible
