Donate your furniture and household items to help those in urgent need in Cornwall to make a new home and a fresh start
We help those referred to us by Social Services and other statutory bodies – those fleeing domestic violence, the homeless, refugees, ex-prisoners, the elderly, long-term sick and those being re-housed. We set them up with your recycled household items quickly and for free, since very often they are given an apartment with nothing in it at all - not even carpets or curtains or anything to cook with or sleep on. We can fix that with your help and give individuals and families some dignity.
History
Originally started in 2007 as Help in United Downs by Judy Backus to help those in need of urgent help with furniture and other items, Hidden Help became a registered charity in January 2021, supported by its Trustees and volunteers. In 2025, in order to cope with ever-growing demand, Hidden Help moved to its current premises in Scorrier.
Vision
We believe that everything we need already exists within our community; we just have to find it and redistribute it. We collect donations of serviceable household goods which we are able to reuse, repair, up-cycle and then redistribute to those who are in urgent need who are referred to us.
Clients
Our "clients" are wide ranging, from single parent families escaping domestic abuse and leaving a shelter or hostel in the local area, to the elderly, vulnerable, long term sick, asylum seekers and ex offenders etc. We get referrals via social services and other local agencies who are best placed to identify the people we need to help.
We supply just about everything required to set up a home, since flats are often provided with nothing in them. Items we try to provide are listed on our "refer a client" page. These are also the items we can accept as donations.
We fill a gap and respond very quickly to client needs. But we need your help to do it.
