Exploring Practises to Help You Focus on Positivity and Potential while Accepting the Things You Cannot Control - with Annika Wilby, Social Prescriber

Thursday, June 17th 2021 @ 7:00PM

Do you find yourself getting stuck in a spiral of negative thoughts?

Worrying about things that you can do nothing about?

Do you feel so focused on the problem that you cannot see a solution?

We know that the negative thoughts we have about ourselves, others and situations can be harmful to our health and wellbeing, and can even become self-fulfilling prophesies as our thoughts influence our feelings and behaviour, and we can act as if our thoughts are true.

So how do we interrupt this cycle and create space for new possibilities in our minds?

Annika has been exploring this very question and has found that affirmations can play a key role in interrupting these old unhelpful thoughts and creating new, more positive thoughts and beliefs. In fact, research shows that repeating affirmations can be a powerful technique for boosting both our self-esteem and our capacity for stress management - accepting those things that are outside of our control.

What will we be exploring together?

  • Accepting the things that we cannot control and letting go of worries we can do nothing with;
  • Using affirmations to help you in managing anxious feelings by changing automatic thought habits;
  • And, importantly, creating an affirmation that is helpful and believable (not one that's so "positive-thinking" that it's in conflict with where you are right now)

Join us for this fascinating discussion where Annika will share approaches that have helped her to let go of the anxious need to control situations outside of her control, and grow her own self-confidence and ability to manage her ways of thinking.

You'll not be on camera or mic, but you'll be able to type questions and comments into the chatbox.
