Parkinson's Disease Awareness

This fully funded webinar aims to provide an overview of Parkinson's Disease including symptoms, management, medication + current research.

According to statistics from Parkinson's UK, there are around 145,000 people living with Parkinson's Disease in the UK and 5-10% of people who live in care homes have the neurological condition.*

Parkinson's Disease is a neurological condition that causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time. There are three main symptoms of Parkinson's Disease which are a tremor, stiffness and slowness of movement, but other symptoms can be experienced. Medication is important for management of symptoms and can particularly affect person's risk of falling.  Parkinson's Disease medication must be given at very specific times and can reduce freezing as well as reduce someone's risk of falls.

Through our webinar we are aiming to provide detailed information for healthcare workers caring for people with Parkinson's Disease including symptoms, management, medication and current research.

The session will be developed and led by Jacqui Chamberlain, Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist, St Austell Community Hospital.

Detailed content for this session is being developed and can be tailored to the needs of the organisations who wish to attend. We plan to include the following:

  • Overview of Parkinson's Disease - including motor and non-motor symptoms
  • Management pathway of Parkinson's Disease exacerbation
  • A case study that will discuss a patient with an infection and the impact it will have on Parkinson's Disease
  • Parkinson's Disease Medication
  • Current Research for Parkinson's Disease
