SeaChange Retreats - Family & Carers Weekend Retreat
22nd & 23rd May 2021
Through surfing, yoga, mindfulness and specialist workshops, SeaChange Retreats offer participants the opportunity to take time out for themselves – to strengthen physically and emotionally; to feel restored and nourished; and to build connections with others with similar experiences.
On Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd May, we are running a retreats for Family and Carers of adults impacted by cancer.
We know that when you are caring for someone else, prioritising yourself and your own needs tends to drop to the bottom of the ‘to do’ list. We also know that caring has a huge impact on everyday life – work, free time, relationships, physical and mental health.
That is why we are offering a unique opportunity for our May retreat.
We have two options for you –
Either, use this as an opportunity to take time out for yourself if you are supporting someone with cancer, or if you have cancer yourself and would like to ‘give back’ to someone special who has, or is, supporting you through your treatment, encourage them to join us. This weekend offers the opportunity for family and carers to take time out for themselves; to think about and process the experience of caring; to have fun through surfing; to connect with others who have supported friends or family through cancer; to have some nurture and restoration. If attending for a weekend is too tricky (e.g. if having to find interim care for the person you care for), you are welcome to join us for just one of the days.
Come and join us for a weekend of:
- Surfing - Two carefully tailored beginner surf lessons give you the chance to get your feet in the wax for the first time and build confidence in the water.
- Yoga - Stretch out post-surf and bring some peace to your mind in our yoga session, suitable for all levels and adaptable to any specific needs.
- Two parallel workshops -
- Caring for Carers: Join a specialist workshop led by Jenny Tarvit and Bernie DeLord, Co-Directors of Promas CIC, exploring the impact of caring and the role of self-care.
- Life after Cancer: Join Dr Helen Reynolds, Clinical Psychologist for a session on wellbeing and readjustment after cancer, offering the opportunity to share experiences and explore tools specifically for those adjusting to life after cancer.
- Mindfulness - Experience a taster of mindfulness with guided practices and opportunities for reflection.
- Evening get together - Join us for a sumptuous feast on Saturday evening, offering time to catch up, reflect on the ‘stoke’ of the day and watch back the footage from the surf – every wipe-out is celebrated!
- Sunday Sound bath - Experience a relaxing, restorative group sound bath led by Jane Everett, Sound and vibrational therapist from Silence & Noise, Cornwall. Designed to retune the nervous system and provide a safe space for deep meditation, even those who aren’t regular practitioners or find meditation impossible can access a level of relaxation they often think is impossible.
Family & Carers Retreat Details

There will be multiple opportunities to connect with others who have gone through similar experiences and a delectable array of food from local suppliers to keep your energy levels topped up; alongside wellbeing activities giving time and space for reflection.
The Saturday session will start around 9am, and run through until 5pm, followed by dinner together in the evening. The Sunday session will start around 9am and run through until 3pm. Please note these times are approximate and may change.
We hope that you will leave feeling fully nourished – mentally and physically, having taken time out for yourself, and are able to carry this with you as you go.
