Supporting young people in Cornwall to access skills programmes, education, employment and training

Working with our partners we can help you to access skills programmes, support, and coaching to move into and remain in sustainable education, employment or training or to  re-engage in education and training. Skills Your Way will also offer targeted programmes of support that will equip you with the best possible tools to develop your skills and to be successful in your future career as well as supporting you to live a healthy, independent life.

Carefree Cornwall work with young people who are in and leaving care. Their aim is to give young people in and leaving care the chance to do things for themselves and others. Carefree provides end to end support for young people in and leaving care. https://www.carefreecornwall.org.uk/

Cornwall Marine Network’s role in the project is to raise the awareness of young people for careers in the local marine sector and improve their work readiness. To do so, the team works with more than 100 Marine employers who volunteer their time to help us support young people with:

  • Gaining employability skills and marine qualifications
  • Accessing 1 to 1 mentoring and training
  • Joining employer talks and industry site visits
  • Introductions to jobs
  • Securing work placements, job trials and Apprenticeships
  • Support young people, predominantly in Marine, Manufacturing, Retail and Engineering (but can work with people in other sectors in Cornwall if required)

Cornwall Education Business Partnership (EBP) works with employers, schools and colleges to help young people prepare for the world of work. They aim to develop knowledge, character attributes, employability and skills through a range of careers related learning programmes and work experience options which have an emphasis on increasing social mobility and challenging stereotypes. https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/schools-and-education/education-business-partnership-ebp/

Dynamo Healthcare have specialist skills and expertise supporting individuals with a range of physical and mental health needs, learning and SEN needs. Using a robust network of services, they are able to support young people with complex needs and provide employability and life skills to develop careers and gain meaningful work experience / apprenticeships. https://dynamohealthcaretraining.co.uk/

Pentreath work one to one with young people to support their mental health and emotional health issues, to identify & promote aspiration and then provide practical support to help engage young people within meaningful activities. The team at Pentreath work with clients in a person-centred way and have years of experience working with young people with multiple complex needs. https://www.pentreath.co.uk/

Newquay Orchard is a unique setting where people can access support to help them into sustained education, training and employment.  Through Skills Your Way, young people can take part in outdoor group activities to grow food, learn woodworking skills, tend the orchard and forest garden and create new landscapes. https://newquayorchard.co.uk/

Using the core values of Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service, Phoenix aims to support communities and the economic prospects of young people. Working across Cornwall, Phoenix provide engagement opportunities through accredited and non-accredited programmes and ongoing training and support to enable young people to develop important life skills and give them a platform to develop further. https://www.phoenixcornwall.co.uk/

The Learning Partnership for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (LPCo) was established in 2001 and is based in Redruth, Cornwall. It was formed to enable partners to work together for the benefit of local residents and contribute to the improvement of the economy of Cornwall. LPCo work with over 60 partners, including further education and private training providers, the voluntary and community sector, and business organisations and are leading the coordination of this Skills Your Way partnership project.

CHAOS provides work placements for young people with learning difficulties within a range of different environments. Alongside supported work placements in several different settings, CHAOS will support with young people with transport and travel training, and one-to-one support to develop motivation and confidence to ensure young people are work ready before approaching employers.
