Help with the Cost of Living

Help with the Cost of Living

Given the increases in energy and living costs, we all have less money in all our pockets to pay for our basics such as food, heating, housing, and transport.

In response to that and in collaboration with The CHAOS Group and the Voluntary Sector Forum (VSF), AgeUK Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly are launching a new campaign entitled Help with the Cost of Living.

It has 2 simple aims:

  1. Encourage organisations and individuals to join Cornwall Link to showcase what they offer and how they can help
  2. Have a single, online space (website) for the public and health & social care professionals to find relevant information and support available in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly & beyond

The campaign includes links to useful toolkits; hints & tips on reducing energy and living costs; grants; food banks/larders; advice and locations for safety, friendship and information including warmth hubs and more.

Well, the need is ever growing and thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign, joined as a member, listed their organisation/service or shared.

Last week alone our Campaign home page views almost doubled! – 74 this last week, 43 last week (and that's just the headline page - that doesn't include any of the individual services which are linked to it).

It's FREE to join and use and a great way to help us all to better connect our communities.  Get in touch if you'd like to know more or want to talk to us - 01872 266383.

Gosh, we've been so busy with the information and support linked to the Campaign, we haven't updated this page for a while! Let's see what's been happening so far especially on social media ....

We've had 23k impressions from one partner alone, 1.3k video views, AgeUK 5.7k page views on Facebook, 9.5k twitter impressions & 418 views on the campaign page alone (that's no including any views of the individual listings themselves!)

Warmth hubs and foodbank searches are most popular; basically those relating to money/budgets and food.

We're also collating stories of how our partner organisations and this campaign have made a positive impact so watch out for those too!

Don't forget, as a parternship we're on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.

Thank you to everyone who has joined the campaign and spread the word.  There's more to do and it's FREE for everyone.

Well, we're into week 2 of our Campaign since launching on 10th October and there's already great momentum!

After one week alone our Cornwall Link Facebook posts saw a 128% increase in page reach, 20 new followers and 24% increase in likes; AgeUK Cornwall & Isles of Scilly profile visits increased by 72.7%.

We've already had 189 page views specific to the campaign (headlines) and now have 55 activities associated with it - amazing 😊

Our 2 key aims are to increase membership & have a central place for anything Cost of Living related.  It's not just organisations and services, but any hints/tips and links to useful information helping us all stretch those pennies a little further.

These include free electric blankets & hot food, recipes, wellbeing events & warm rooms/spaces/banks to name a few.

Spread the word ...... add a listing .......get sharing

So, how can YOU support the campaign?

  1. Become a member of Cornwall Link

It’s FREE to join and use.  If your organsation can offer support in some way for anyone affected by these price increases, hop on board!  If you’re a sole trader you could be eligible too (check our eligibility criteria).

Anything which can directly or indirectly support people, is welcomed.  For example:

  • You could be an advice service helping people claim benefits they weren’t aware they were entitled to
  • You could be a community group which offers online movement classes that encourages us to be a little more active and improve our circulation
  • You could be an individual who wants to volunteer who, for example, delivers food and is active in their local community
  • You could be a national organisation offering an online toolkit outlining how to make your home warmer and less draughty
  • You can signpost to hints, tips and discounts
  • You can give advice on making your money and food go further, including budgeting skills

This is for anyone 18 years or older, not just older people or those of pensionable age.

  1. Use & share Cornwall Link

If you’d like to know what support is out there for you, check out the listings linked to this campaign.

Tell your friends, neighbours and work colleagues about it.  If you know of an organsiation or individual who can help make the rises in the cost of living more manageable, ask them to become a member and list what they do and how to contact them.

Get involved in activities, share on social networks, or yourself.
