Exploring why mouth care matters so much and supporting health and social care providers to improve the oral health of those they care for. Register via Eventbrite

About this Event

Please join us for one, more or even all of this series of funded webinars during the first week of November. Developed and delivered in partnership with Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust (RCHT), Health Education England, Public Health England and Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group they will cover the full spectrum of oral health.

This includes considering swallowing difficulties, nutrition and hydration as well as practical advice around dental hygiene. Local experts will be on hand to offer guidance on how best to support those in hospital or receiving social care with this vital aspect of overall wellbeing. The webinars will also offer the opportunity to ask questions and signpost to key mouth care resources and opportunities for further training.

Webinar 1: Tuesday 3 November 10.30-11.30am

We'll be kicking off with a session hosted by CHAOS TV. This will offer an introduction to the importance of mouth care for good, overall health, how to spot signs of poor oral health and its potential risks. The team at CHAOS will be chatting to dental experts and a care provider about the challenges of ensuring optimum oral health and how they overcome them. Guest will include: Zoe Allen (Public Health England), Louisa Forbes (Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group), Mike Wheeler (Health Education England) and Donna MacKinnon (Head of Care at Roscarrack House Care Home) who will all be on hand to offer advice and answer queries.

Webinar 2: Wednesday 4 November 1.30-3pm

Mike Wheeler and Ingrid Bowden of Health Education England will offer practical guidance on not just cleaning teeth, but also maintaining a healthy mouth. They will be joined by Paul Craig of Newquay Dental Laboratory who will give practical advice on wearing and maintaining dentures. They will also cover the additional considerations necessitated by the need to control the spread of Covid 19.

Webinar 3: Thursday 5 November 1.30-3pm

This session will consider oral health in its widest sense. Mike Wheeler (Health Education England) will be joining us again along with Jessie Retallick (Prescribing Support Dietitian) and Jennifer Lloyd (Speech and Language Therapist). Between them they will cover mouth care, nutrition and hydration as well as the process of eating and swallowing and associated difficulties.

Webinar 4: Friday 6 November 1.30-2pm

Zoe Allen (Public Health England) will conclude this Mouth Care Matters Week with information about a brand new toolkit of oral health resources compiled by PHE. This resource pack is being launched soon to support care and health providers to maintain optimum oral health in those they care for.

All sessions are provided free of charge and you are welcome to join us for as many of the webinars as you are able to.

REACH Cornwall (part of the ESF Business Clusters project) is part-funded by the European Social Fund and delivered by Truro and Penwith College Business, your trusted training partner.
